MANSFIELD, MA—Trump. Clinton. Johnson. Stein. With contentions hotter than a branding iron, America marches to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8, for one of the most historical presidential elections in most of our lifetimes.

From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., voters hit voting booths across the country, electing not only our next commander-in-chief, but members of congress, state representatives and senators, councilors and county sheriffs in their communities.

1:45 p.m. - As of midday, 4,097 residents have voted for a turnout of 29.3 percent according to Town Clerk Marianne Staples. The figure does not include early voting, which was still being tallied.

Outside, Democrats holding signs were focused on the State Rep. race and Democratic candidate Michael Toole, who was outside the polls. He said that the polls in Norton and Mansfield have been busy since a line started to form at 6:50 a.m. for the 7 a.m. opening.

Toole said he voted for Clinton because of her 30 years of leadership skills.

"She's going to take to office and hit the ground running," he said.

Selectmen Michael Trowbridge and Frank DelVecchio, who were holding signs outside Mansfield High School, said they voted for Hillary Clinton because Trump was getting to divisive and she has a more positive vision.

Nearby, Trump supporters and anti-Clinton advocates drew more attention from voters. While Mansfield Patch spoke with supporters of the Republican candidate for president, one person yelled support for Clinton from her car while another said from his car "Unfortunately, you live in the dumbest, socialist state in the country."

Standing with homemade signs for him and others, Mansfield High School senior Matt Hannon said he wanted to still take part in the political process, even if he was born a couple months too early to vote.

"Since I can't vote, I want to make an impression for others. We don't need another four years," he said.

Hannon said he's been holding signs for political candidates since he was nine years old during the 2008 campaign.

His dad, Bob Hannon, said his vote for Trump was more anti-Clinton than pro-Trump.

"Nothing on my signs says anything about Clinton," the older Hannon said. "I think I threw up a little but I voted for Donald (Trump) because he's the lesser of two evils."
