Mansfield Bank Robber Wants Sentence with Less Prison Time

A man who pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in Mansfield last year has asked a U.S. District Court judge for less prison time than requested by prosecutors, citing his abusive childhood, drug addiction and mental health issues.
George E. Englehart, 51, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday for a 2014 robbery at the North Main Street Bank of America according to the Sun Chronicle. He pleaded guilty to the robbery in September.
Englehart’s public defender said in a sentencing memorandum that his client committed the crime to support his heroin addiction.

Federal prosecutors are looking for a sentence of 12 1/2 years in prison, followed by five years of probation, along with additional fines and restitution that have not been decided. Public defender Joshua Hanye recommended 10 years in prison followed by seven years of probation.
In April 2014, Engelhart used a black pellet gun with the red tip painted over to threaten a clerk at the bank. He was charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest, among other charges. When police encountered him, a large amount of loose and banded cash fell to the ground from his waistband. When he was asked where the cash came from. he stated he found it, before being taken into custody.
