Mansfield Gets $148,993 In Road/Bridge Funding From State

The funding is expected to help with planned construction on Rumford Avenue and Leonard Street.

MANSFIELD, MA — The town of Mansfield was awarded $148,933 in state funding to go toward road and bridge repair, Gov. Baker's office announced Wednesday.

These additional funds will help Mansfield with construction planned for the spring on Rumford Avenue and Leonard Street, department of public works (DPW) director Lee Azinheira told Patch. The construction could start as early as April, but this is dependent on the winter, he said.

"We weren't expecting much funding for (fiscal year) 2020, so any additional funding for 2019 is very helpful." Azinheira said.

The funding was part of a $40 million supplemental budget Baker signed for fiscal year 2019, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

“We are pleased to provide this additional transportation funding for local projects in cities and towns across the Commonwealth,” Baker said in a press release. “This funding represents our continued commitment to supporting communities as they address the maintenance and modernization of local roads, which are a critical part of the Commonwealth’s transportation network.”

Additional funds were added to the current budget, so that towns can start projects as soon as possible, Lieutentant Gov. Karyn Polito said.

“This support will allow community leaders to take action immediately so that projects are ‘shovel ready’ for the spring construction season,” she said.
