Mansfield High School MCAS Scores Slightly Decrease

The 2015 MCAS results are in and Mansfield is spectacularly consistent with their results from last year for the high school exam. Below are the results for the 10th-grade tests in math, English, and science.

English: 98 percent of students scored either advanced or proficient on the exam, the same amount as last year. This year, 68 percent scored advance compared to 67 percent last year. In proficient, the percentage is down a point from 31 percent to 30. Three percent scored either failing or needs improvement.

Math: The number of students in the advance and proficient categories is slightly down from 94 percent to 92. While the 76 percent of students in the advance category beats last year result by a percentage point, the number of students scoring in the proficient category is down from 19 to 16. Eight percent of students scored needs improvement or warning/failing.

Science: Students scoring advance or proficient is down from 91 percent to 87. Advance students are down from 43 percent to 36 while proficient students are up from 48 to 51. 12 percent of students scored either needs improvement or warning/failing.

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 mandates that every student be proficient in English language arts and math by 2014. In Massachusetts, this proficiency is measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).

A school must improve in proficiency each year based on adequate yearly progress (AYP). In Massachusetts, AYP is determined by student performance on various parts of the MCAS.
