MANSFIELD, MA — Police are trying to identify who stole radios and other electronic devices from four to five planes at the Mansfield Municipal Airport.

The radios will not be cheap for local pilots to replace. The radios, which are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration cost about $30,000, George Howarth, who owns one of the planes told WCVB 5.

Police believe the thefts happened sometime last week, and most likely at night.

Mansfield Police are trying to determine how the suspects got into the airport runway, as they would have had to elude security and have time to break into the planes. Police did not find any broken fences at the airport.

Howarth told the Sun Chronicle that any suspect would have had to have knowledge of planes and knew exactly what they were looking for. He said a less expensive electronic device, which would have been easier to steal was left behind.
