Mansfield to Receive Over $2 Million for Improvements near Train Station

The town will receive over $2.3 million from the state assist in transit-oriented housing, traffic flow, and parking.

Senator James Timilty (D-Walpole), Representative F. Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield), Representative Elizabeth Poirier (R-North Attleboro), and Representative Louis Kafka (D-Stoughton) are happy to celebrate with town residents in Mansfield for receiving the award of $2,374,379.70 from the MassWorks Infrastructure Program. “The size and scope of this grant for Mansfield is a true reflection of the impressive plan presented for this project,” said Senator Timilty. “With a multi-tiered effort of transit-oriented housing, economic revitalization, traffic flow, parking, and public safety accessibility the Town was clear in their focus. I am glad that the Baker-Polito Administration has worked so well with our delegation through the MassWorks team at Housing and Economic Development to see this substantial award become a reality.”

The project details a plan for approximately 81 residential units, with 13 sectioned as affordable units, and a building with 7,000 square feet of commercial space facing the train station while promoting public safety through improving intersections, streets, parking and sidewalks in this area. “This is a great opportunity to continue the development of Downtown Mansfield, and I’m very pleased that this project was selected,” said Rep. Kafka. “Addressing public safety concerns while increasing commuter rail parking is just one of the many great facets of this endeavor.”

The Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development received 101 applications requesting $245 million in funding for the highly competitive program. “I extend my congratulations to the Town of Mansfield in being awarded this grant. This is a wonderful accomplishment and I’m very excited as it will create new growth as well as expansion and improvements for the residents in Mansfield,” said Rep. Poirier. The Town of Mansfield represented by Town Manager Bill Ross as well as the Mansfield State House delegation was on hand to accept the award from Lieutenant Governor Polito and Secretary Ash of the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. Earlier this fall the Lieutenant Governor joined Town of Mansfield officials and the Mansfield State House delegation for the signing of a Community Compact elevating the partnership of the town with the Baker-Polito administration. “The MassWorks award is a testament to the hard work of Mansfield town officials to improving our community, and a sign of commitment on the part of the Baker-Polito administration to improving municipalities across the Commonwealth,” said Rep. Barrows. “I am thrilled to see that our community is the recipient of this award. Residents of Mansfield will benefit greatly from this development. The infrastructure project will be an improvement to public safety in Mansfield, while also creating a boost to our local economy.”
