The grants will be used to improve fire safety education for children and seniors in Mansfield.

MANSFIELD, MA — The fire department was awarded almost $7,000 between two state grants for fire safety education for children and seniors.

The grants are part of the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) and Senior S.A.F.E. programs. The Baker-Polito Administration awarded grants to 246 fire departments throughout the state.

Mansfield's fire department received $4,354 under the S.A.F.E. grant, which will be used for fire safety education programs for children. The $2,600 Senior S.A.F.E. grant will be used to make sure Mansfield's seniors are safe in the event of a fire.
