Mansfield Receives Increase in State Aid

The town will receive more than expected funding from the state.

Mansfield will get a little more funding than expected from the state.

Town Manager Bill Ross told the selectmen on Wednesday that aid from the state was increased by over $254,000 in Governor Charlie Baker’s latest budget.

Ross says the town can move forward and cut that much less out of the proposed fiscal year 2016 budget.

In school aid, the town will see an increase of $20 per student, or $83,420. The extra aid comes as part of the governor’s proposal to give school departments an increase in chapter 70 funding that is no less than $20 per student.

The legislature has yet to vote on the budget. Mansfield voters will have their say on the town budget at the Annual Town Meeting in the spring.
