Mansfield Union Treasurer Charged with Stealing Union Funds

The DA's office says Pamela J. Almeida, 53 regularly wrote checks from union funds to herself.

MANSFIELD, MA — A Raynham woman faces charges due to her role in a scheme to steal money from the Southeastern Public Employees Association, authorities said.

Pamela J. Almeida, 53, was arrested Monday afternoon. She was charged with larceny over $250 during her arraignment late Monday afternoon in Taunton District Court, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's office. She was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail.

Almeida works as a clerk for the Easton Planning and as the treasurer of the union representing various public employees employed in Easton, Mansfield, West Bridgewater, and Milton. The District Attorney's office says the defendant had control of the union’s bank account in Easton.

Union representatives became suspicious that Almeida was stealing funds from the union bank account and contacted Easton police last week. During a review of 21 months of bank records, investigators learned that Almeida regularly drafted checks payable to herself from union funds for no legitimate reason. For the time-frame examined, Almeida allegedly wrote more than 30 checks to herself for a total theft of around $20,000, according to the District Attorney's office.

Investigators are now checking records older than the initial 21-month period.
