Celebrating cancer survivors will be the focus as the Relay For Life of Mansfield kicks off its 10th anniversary year on Friday, June 13, at 6:00 p.m.
After the Relay’s opening ceremonies, cancer survivors and caregivers will join together to walk the opening lap – unified in victory and hope – while the rest of the event’s participants surround the Mansfield High School track to cheer them on. This empowering celebration is just a small piece of the extraordinary experience of Relay For Life.

Immediately following the opening ceremony and lap, survivors and caregivers are invited to a complimentary dinner reception, held at the Mansfield High School cafeteria, brightly decorated for the occasion. This is a chance for survivors to mingle with other courageous people and enjoy a wonderful, donated dinner and entertainment.

All cancer survivors or caregivers, Mansfield residents or from other towns, are invited to join the event and attend Mansfield’s Relay For Life survivor reception. There is special parking for the survivors available if it is needed. To register, please call Kelly Banks with the American Cancer Society at 508-897-4329, Dottie Powers at 508-339-5715 or go to the website www.relayforlife.org/mansfieldma.
During the event, teams keep at least one member on the track at all times. The overnight walk reflects a cancer patient’s journey through the disease ending with a new sense of hope as the sun rises in the morning. Walking around a track symbolizes that there is no finish line until we find a cure for cancer.
Relay For Life is a unique grassroots fundraising event in which individuals and teams of participants walk around a track overnight to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost, and commit to fight back against the disease. It is the nationwide signature activity of the American Cancer Society and has raised more than $4 billion since its inception in 1985.
Teams of friends, families, businesses, schools and the whole community do most of their fundraising prior to the event, and some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their campsites during the event. Upcoming fundraisers and dates to note can be found online at www.relayforlife.org/mansfieldma.
