Residents Upset Over Back Road Traffic From Xfinity Center Show

Town officials have received several calls regarding concertgoers trying to use side streets to get to the venue.

MANSFIELD, MA — Residents around the Xfinity Center found themselves as the recipients of a traffic headache.

Residents on social media expressed frustration with concert goers to attempted to use apps like Waze to find a quicker way to the venue, but ended up creating traffic jams on local roads. Residents on the Mansfield Police Department's Facebook page say there were several issues Tuesday night including gridlock on Willow Street, vehicles speeding down Bellview Drive, and loud music and drug use in vehicles on Reservoir Street.

The Mansfield Police Department said they did reach out to Waze about discouraging use of the side roads in their directions, with follow up and review of their options to come.

Wednesday, Mansfield Board of Selectmen Chairman Michael Trowbridge confirmed that town officials have contacted the app's maker about their directions to the Xfinity Center and has requested that Police Chief Ron Sellon and Xfinity Center officials meet to work on an immediate resolution help alleviate any issues at future events.

"I am aware, as well as the rest of the selectmen are, of the complaints regarding traffic, littering, public urination, speeding etc on numerous side streets," Trowbridge said in a statement on Facebook.

In a statement, Mansfield police said, "Thank you to everyone who voiced their concerns and displeasure with the traffic and traffic-related issues due to the show last night. We are working on it. Thank you for your patience."

Tuesday's concert, the "Nobody's Safe Tour" featuring Future and Migos, was the first show of the season.
