School Committee Honors Mansfield Parent for Special Needs Work

Kimberly Piro was commended by the committee this week.

A longtime Mansfield schools volunteer and advocate for special needs was recently honored by the Mansfield School Committee.

On Tuesday, Jamie Fund founder Kimberly Piro was commended by the committee for her work in the schools with a special plaque.

Committee Chairman Michael Trowbridge said that Piro has spent countless hours making Mansfield a better place.

“I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this,” Piro said.

In addition to the Jamie Fund, Piro has spent 15 years as a member and president of the Mansfield special education advisory council and created the iCare program. Both programs were inspired by Piro’s daughter Jamie who has autism and the need to better educate students on classmates with special needs.

Former school committee member Wayne Smith also received a plaque in recognition of his term on the board. He served as a school committee member from 2012 to 2015.
