School Enrollment Projected to Drop
The Mansfield Public Schools will have less than 4,000 students next year.
If the projections hold up, the enrollment numbers at the Mansfield Public Schools will go down 3.1 to 3.7 percent every year for the next five years.
The school district is set to go under 4,000 students next year according to new numbers presented during the presentation of the school budget to the school committee last week.
The Qualters Middle and High Schools are expected to see the biggest decrease in the next few years. This school year, the schools had 1,004 and 1,324 students. Those numbers are expected to decrease to 755 at the middle school and 1,130 at the high school by the 2020-21 school year.

In the same time frame, the Jordan-Jackson school is projected to go from 861 students to 719, The Robinson School has the lowest decrease going from 720 to 717, and the Roland Green School is expected to remain consistent with 95 students every year for the next five years.
By fiscal year 2017, there will be 11 sections each in kindergarten through third grade, 12 in fourth grade, and 13 in fifth grade. The average class size is expected to be between 20.8 and 23.6 students in each grade. In fiscal year 2014, the average size was 19.8 to 25.2.
