Town Addresses Allen Street Closure, Parking During Train Station Construction
Town officials are responding to concerns surrounding a 21-month long MBTA construction project at the train station.

MANSFIELD, MA — A street near the train station has been closed by the lot that owns it.
Responding to resident concerns, Mansfield Board of Selectmen Chairman Michael Trowbridge and Acting Town Manager John Stanbrook announced Tuesday that the owners of the private lot at 75 Chauncy St have closed Allen Street and showed no interest in granting an easement to allow traffic on the road. The street was closed with relatively short notice, according to a statement from the two town officials.
The closure comes after the selectmen granted 120 extra spaces to the two private lots to replace spots temporarily lost to a 21-month long project to improve handicap access at the train station.

The town has attempted to address the traffic caused by the Allen Street closure by making River Street a two-way street, but that has caused the loss of about 20 parking spaces.
While parking on the northbound side of the tracks and a portion of the southbound side near the train station is unavailable, the town is providing other options for those looking for a place to park.

Thirty spaces are available on North Main Street and parking at the County Street lot in Foxborough is free and has a GATRA shuttle during peak hours.
Cars illegally parked and non-residents parked in residential spaces will be subjected to ticketing.
