Town Manager Candidates Offer Different Experiences

The three candidates will be interviewed next week.

MANSFIELD, MA — The three finalists for the Mansfield Town Manager opening are offering the town a variety of experience from both the public and private sector.

The town manager search committee announced last week that outgoing Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas, former Stoughton Town Manager Michael Hartman, and Mansfield Finance Committee Chairman Walter Wilk were unanimously selected as the three to go in front of the selectmen for final interviews.

Of the three candidates, Dumas has a resume of one job but it includes plenty of accomplishments. The soon to be former mayor of Attleboro was elected to office in 2003 at the age of 27 and has severed on many boards including the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, Massachusetts Foundation Budget Review Commission, United States Conference Of Mayors, Gay Officers Action League of New England, and National League of Cities.

Dumas lost to state Rep. Paul Heroux in November's election and will leave office at the start of 2018.

Hartman offers Mansfield 35 years of experience and has spent nearly the past two decades working as a town manager or town administrator. Prior to his four years in Stoughton, he spent four years as the town manager of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, six years as the town administrator of Wareham, and three years as the town administrator of Medway. He has worked in town government since 1974. Hardman's contract with the Town of Stoughton expired June 30 and a contentious debate over whether or not he needed to be formally discharged followed. At the time, the Stoughton selectmen voted 3-2 to move ahead with an interim town manager and the board members who voted in favor of ousting Hartman were recently removed from office through a recall vote.

Serving on the finance committee, Wilk is probably the most familiar with Mansfield. He is also the one candidate to spend most of his career in the private sector and is current employed at Wells Fargo as a managing director. He has been at Wells Fargo since 2005 and previously spent time as a managing director at Marsh and was a senior vice president at Sheppard Riley Coughlin.

Finalist interviews will take place Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. Below are the candidates' resumes:
