1. Parents, sign up for free prenatal classes (marbleheadweeklynews.com) — Expecting parents in Marblehead can sign up for a free three-session prenatal course this October at Marblehead Parenting on Tioga Way, funded by the town's Board of Health. The evening classes cover newborn care, car-seat and safe-sleep practices, postpartum recovery, and mental health, and help families build a support network; non-residents may join for a fee.
2. Four Marblehead retailers fined for flavored nicotine products (marbleheadweeklynews.com) — Marblehead health officials have fined four local retailers $1,000 each after inspectors found ZYN Chill nicotine pouches classified as prohibited flavored products under town rules. No underage sales occurred, but the Board of Health is questioning manufacturer claims, planning follow-up inspections, and preparing a broader review of Marblehead's tobacco and nicotine regulations that could affect all seven permitted retailers.
3. Frances Marguerite Stirgwolt (thecricket.com) — Longtime North Shore resident Frances Marguerite Stirgwolt, who most recently lived in Marblehead, has died at age 101 after a life centered on family, teaching, and community service. Her loved ones will gather for a funeral Mass in Salem on October 9, and the family asks that friends honor her through kindness or donations to Kaplan Family Hospice House.
4. Communities unite over Lynnway redesign (marbleheadweeklynews.com) — Marblehead's Select Board and local residents are joining Nahant and Swampscott officials in pressing the state to more fully assess how the Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project could affect traffic and emergency response for North Shore commuters. They're not opposing safety and transit upgrades outright, but want updated data, clear performance measures, and mitigation plans that protect Marblehead drivers, businesses, and emergency access.
