Bev Seamans Retrospective at MAA
A number of local artists will also have their work on display in August.
A new retrospective exhibit on the work and career of Beverly Seamans, as well as several solo artist exhibits, is coming to the Marblehead Arts Association next month.
The opening reception for the exhibits is Sunday, August 16, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marblehead Arts Association at the historic King Hooper Mansion, at 8 Hooper Street.
The exhibits will be on display from August 15 through September 27.

The Beverly Seamans exhibit will take place in the Ballroom Gallery and is presented by her son, John Seamans.
Seamans (1928-2012) was a beloved Marblehead sculptor and a granddaughter of noted marine painter John P. Benson and the great niece of American Impressionist painter and printmaker Frank W. Benson.

She belonged to the Copley Society of Boston and was a fellow of the National Sculptor Society in New York City. She had a successful career as an artist here on the North Shore and her work has become internationally known.
Her work is in many private collections and such public collections as Beverly Hospital, Wellesley College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Seamans exhibited locally at the Boston Museum of Science and the Peabody Essex Museum as well as further afield at the National Sculptors Society in New York City and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. One of her most notable commissions was for the American Cathedral in Paris.
The other artists whose work will be on display includes Louren Doucette, Caroline May, Sheila Farren Billings, Martin Whitkin, Janet Albert, Holly Chin, Elaine Caliri Daly, Susan Kauder, Barbara Rafferty, and Polly Maxon Tritschler.
At the Opening Reception, The MAA will be hosting a gallery dedication in honor of longtime artist
member, patron, and philanthropist, Peggy Schrage, who has been a friend to the MAA for many years with a special tribute to Deborah Greel, former Executive Director and Paul McMahon, a dedicated volunteer and artist member.
