Sunny, rainless days have created dry conditions and prompted cautionary words from Marblehead's fire prevention officer, Capt. Michael Porter.

The captain urges backyard cooks to not barbecue on wooden decks and place their grills and other outdoor cooking units at least 10 feet away from the house.

Also, for those who are placing mulch around plants and trees and such, keep the mulch well away from homes.

Fire from items including flicked cigarettes can spread from a mulch bed to a home and cause major fire damage.
