Cause of Marblehead Strip Mall Roof Collapse Unknown

An employee showed up for work at the strip mall on Pleasant Street in Marblehead Tuesday and found the roof partially caved in.

According to the Marblehead Police Department log, the worker reported the incident to police and fire authorities who called for the evacuation of the business in the strip mall, including Starbucks and 7-11.

“We’re not sure (as to the cause), there wasn’t a lot of snow on the roof,” Marblehead Fire Capt. Scott Murray said, according to ItemLive.com.

ItemLive.com said no one was injured in the incident and the building could be a total loss.

The Marblehead Police Department Facebook page states that Walgreens and Starbucks are closed indefinitely due to “structural issues.”

“Anyone looking for coffee or muffins should seek alternate locations,” the post reads. “Anyone with prescriptions should go to the Walgreens in Swampscott as they can be assisted there.”
