Chimney Collapses at Old North Church Office

No one injured, clean up crews were called to board up the roof.

A chimney collapse at the Old North Church office on Stacey street closed down a portion of Washington Street late Monday afternoon.

At about 5:30 p.m., police got a call about a possible chimney explosion or collapse at the church office.

Police and fire crews were soon on the scene for the chimney collapse and closed down Washington Street between Pickett and Franklin Streets.

Representatives from the church and the building inspector’s office were called in to assess the damage from the chimney collapse. Washington Street was reopened around 6 p.m., according to police.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a board-up service was called in to assist with some damage, consisting of a hole in the roof the size of a chimney.
