Christopher Williams returns to Marblehead on November 2

Christopher Williams is not only a long-time Nashville songwriter, but he’s also a storyteller and entertainer. He offers songs that are honest and confessional but never over-bearing, bringing joy to each and every performance. Rachel Marie opens the show on Friday, November 2. Christopher Williams gives it his all on stage with an appealing mix of intense passion and humor. With “lush guitar work, and sweet soaring vocals,” punctuated by the percussive vulnerability of a single African djembe hand drum and a strong baritone voice, he continues to be a hard-touring singer-songwriter and a master at spreading his personal energy out into a live audience.
Williams has toured nonstop nationally for over twenty years and has built a faithful following of listeners around the country. He is truly an independent artist and has released eleven records on his own label. He has played with songwriters such as Arlo Guthrie, David Wilcox, Patty Larkin, and Ellis Paul. Gather is Christopher’s latest album, which includes a brilliant batch of new songs that speak directly to the chaotic times we find ourselves in and the need to slow down, remember the value of face-to-face conversation and the importance of community. The Grand Rapids Press reports that “In his own quiet way, Williams forces the listener to slow down and really listen. And in a very loud and fast world, that’s long overdue.”

Rachel Marie opens the show for Christopher Williams. She is a cunning wordsmith, and precociously sophisticated. Clear and mature vocal production colors her songs that are relevant, reliable, and far-reaching. She sings songs that contain social awareness but remains true to traditional singer-songwriter fare with a mild dose of snarky real-world observations.
After receiving a graduate degree in classical music in Boston, she has remained in the area and planted her roots in the very strong and supportive folk community. Rachel’s new full-length album, False Foundations, was released in May 2018.

Tickets for the Christopher Williams and opener Rachel Marie are $18 in advance and $21 at the door. Student tickets are $10. As at all me & thee coffeehouse events, refreshments are available, including homemade pastries, coffee, and teas. The me & thee is one of the oldest continually running acoustic coffeehouses in New England, and probably the country. It has been and will always be a volunteer, non-profit organization sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead.
