Dancer Emma Barbin Joins Marblehead School of Ballet's Faculty
The Marblehead School of Ballet and the North Shore Civic Ballet Company announce dancer Emma Barbin has been appointed to the faculty.
The Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) welcomes dancer Emma Barbin to the school’s faculty. Barbin, a native of Beverly currently living in Revere, Massachusetts, will begin teaching ballet classes during the school’s new 44th anniversary fall semester. She will also serve as the North Shore Civic Ballet’s (NSCB) rehearsal assistant and perform with the ballet company. Classes are taught at the school’s studio, located at 115 Pleasant Street, in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
For several years, Barbin has studied at the MSB and performed extensively with the NSCB. As a NSCB dancer, she has performed works by Ivan Korn, August Bournonville, Richard Colton, Denise Sklar, Paula K. Shiff, and Mary Lee Karlins among others. Barbin holds an associates degree from Endicott College and pursued a dance major at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
“We are delighted to welcome Emma Barbin to the faculty at the MSB. She is a very talented dancer and teacher and will be a great asset to the MSB and NSCB. Our 44th anniversary places us in the great tradition of ballet. This is a traditional art form passed from one generation to the next: from teacher to student from older generation to younger generation. As time passes, the student becomes the teacher and the art continues,” said Paula K. Shiff, director, MSB.

Founded in 1971, MSB’s classical ballet forms the core of teaching with particular emphasis on correct alignment and development of strength and agility. The sheer pleasure of dance and music is always central to the classroom experience.
The basic graded program for children includes classes in ballet technique with advanced work in repertoire and pointe. The school also offers a modern dance department, classes for young children in creative movement and classes in improvisation and technique for the older student. A full range of adult classes is offered.
