UPDATE: Early Morning Garage Fire Closes Road Near Schools

The fire is extinguished and Cornell Road has reopened.

A garage fire between Dartmouth Road and the school administration building on Widger Road was quickly extinguished early Tuesday morning, according to Marblehead police.

However, roads in the are near Tower and Bell schools remain closed as of just before 8 a.m., and police say to expect delays and avoid Cornell Road if possible.

The call for the garage fire in the area of 37 Cornell Road came in shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

By 7:40 a.m, police reported that the fire was located between Dartmouth Road and the rear entrance to the School Administration building on Widger Road and that they were closing the roadway.

By 7:45 a.m, police reported that the fire was extinguished, but that crews remained on the scene and the road was still closed.

By 8:45 a.m., the road was reopened.

There were no injuries and police praised a woman who was driving by, spotted the fire, and called 911 early this morning.
