Dry Conditions Spark Warning of Fire Danger

Our Five Things to Know column provides essential daily information at a glance, including word from the National Weather Service that dangerously dry conditions and wind could spark fires.

1. Weather Watch: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph.

  • Sunrise: 6:18 a.m.
  • High tide: 7:35 a.m.
  • Low tide: 1:53 p.m.
  • Sunset: 7:14 p.m.

2. Fire Weather Conditions Warning: The National Weather Service warns that conditions are ripe for fires, with dryness and gusty winds. Salem offered a lesson yesterday as a brush fire ripped through a wooded area near the entrance to Salem Willows.

3. 2012 Town Report Issued: The town published the 2012 Town Report yesterday on its Web site. The 300-page document details nearly everything you'd want to remember about public life in Marblehead during 2012 from Town Meeting votes to election results. 4. 376th First Muster: Marblehead history is of course intertwined with our nation's military history. That will be on display Saturday in Salem as the National Guard holds its 376th First Muster. Marblehead connections to the festivities include participation by Glover's Regiment, a colonial reenactment group honoring General John Glover. Salem Patch has all the details for the celebration.
