Halloween Witch Ride Roars Through Marblehead on Sunday

Residents are being told to expect some traffic delays on Sunday afternoon.

The Halloween Witch Ride to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association is coming to Marblehead this Sunday, Oct. 18. An estimated 2,400 motorcycles will be in the procession.

For the twenty-seventh year, motorcyclists from around the region will make the ride from Revere to Shetland Park in Salem to raise money for research, clinics, support groups, physical and occupational therapy, equipment repair and a special summer camp for children with muscle diseases. This ride has raised roughly $600,000 over the years.

The route in Marblehead will be Humphrey Street from Swampscott, into the traffic intersection at Humphrey – Maple – Tedesco Streets, up Maple Street past the Glover School and a left onto Lafayette Street heading outbound towards Salem.

Marblehead police have been told to expect about a 40-minute long delay as the procession passes. As with years past, extensive traffic delays should be expected. Police will be on hand at major intersections along the route and will be escorting the procession to expedite them along. As a precaution, an ambulance will be the last vehicle in line.

If you have places to be on Sunday, police suggest leaving early so as not to be late.

The ride starts in Revere at noon. It is estimated that they will arrive in Marblehead sometime around 1 p.m. If police learn of a different time, they will update the public via social media.
