Local Man Faces Child Endangerment and OUI Drugs Charges

A Marblehead man faces charges including child endangerment and operating under the influence of drugs after he was allegedly seen driving erratically and at high speeds by an off-duty police officer.
Jeremy Katz, 37, of 29 Neptune Road, Marblehead was arraigned Monday in Lynn District Court and released on $500 cash bail.

He is also charged with carrying a dangerous weapon (mace), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding in violation of special regulation, unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, a passing violation and marked lane violations.
On Friday night about 9:55 an off-duty patrol officer saw a red SUV passing vehicles on the right and traveling about 65 mph in a 30 mph zone.

The officer, Nicholas Michaud, also said he saw the SUV nearly hit another vehicle as the SUV turned right on Pleasant Street.
Marblehead police stopped the SUV at West Shore Drive and Jersey Street.
The driver of the SUV, a red Nissan Murano, was identified by police as Jeremy Katz. Also in the vehicle was a 21-year-old man, in the passenger seat, and an 8-year-old child in a booster seat in the back seat of the SUV.
Police gave the driver eye tests and field sobriety tests. They also noted that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot and his pupils were dilated, according to the police report.
The 37-year-old failed two field sobriety tests, police said.
Based on the eye tests and field tests, police allege that Katz was impaired by drugs, according to the police report.
