Man Rescued From Steep Castle Rock Fall In Marblehead

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A man who sustained injuries when he fell 16 feet down a crevice at Castle Rock was rescued Saturday using Marblehead fire ropes, harnesses and a basket to lift him to safety.

The fall happened about 3:30 p.m. at the rock on Ocean Avenue. Marblehead fire said a crew from Group Three arrived to find the man injured and unable to get out of the crevice on his own.

Two firefighters descended to the man and began giving medical care before requesting assistance. Marblehead police and Engine Two responded and crews were able to free the man using the ladders, ropes, harnesses and a stokes basket to immobilize him.

Crews carried him down the steep terrain to a stretcher. Atlantic Ambulance then took him to a Boston-area hospital for care.

"We wish the patient a speedy recovery," Marblehead fire said. "Thank you to the Salem Fire Department for covering the town while companies were operating at this incident."

Marblehead fire also thanked Roger Baker from Rehab Five, Marblehead police and Cataldo Atlantic Ambulance for their assistance.

"Great job by all fire responders on scene," Marblehead fire said.
