Marblehead Abbot Library Opens Temporary Location Monday
The Eveleth School will be the home of the Abbot Public Library for the next two years while the historic library is closed for renovations.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The two-year temporary home of the Abbot Public Library will open at Marblehead's Eveleth School on Monday.
The Brook Road location will be home to library programs and materials for the next two years while the historic main building undergoes a $9 million renovation.
Hours will remain the same as they were at the Pleasant Street location with the library open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, noon to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The library is closed on Sundays.
The interim space will repurpose the school's classroom and gymnasium space and house about 40 percent of the Abbot collections. There will also continue to be quiet reading areas, a room for public programs, browsing, book returns and computer labs.

"We accomplished a lot during the last five weeks and we are grateful to all of the people who contributed to the transformation of the Eveleth School into a gem of a library as we moved thousands of books, shelving, furniture, computers, and art to the space," Abbot Public Library Director Kimberly Grad said.
The Abbot renovations are expected to be completed in spring 2024.
Teen and children's programs at the Eveleth space begin on Nov. 1, adult programs begin on Nov. 4, computer lab help space opens on Nov. 7,
An open house will take place on Nov. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. where families are encouraged to explore collections for teens and children.
