Marblehead Green Street Woods Bike Path Grand Opening Set For Sunday
The off-road bike and hiking path opens on the former school property after years of efforts on behalf of biking proponents.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A passion project among a group of Marblehead outdoor enthusiasts that was years in the making will come to fruition this weekend with the grand opening of the Green Street Woods bike path.
The path will officially open on Sunday with the public invited to a ceremony from 2 to 4 p.m. that will include the Friends of Green Street Woods and members of the New England Mountain Bike Association.
There will be bike inspections available and those attending are asked to either bike or walk, or park at the Stramski school.

The transfer of the land from the school department for the biking and walking path was passed at last year's annual town meeting after two years of getting the warrant article ready for presentation.
Supporters cited the dramatic increase in bike riding during the pandemic and the health benefits of biking and outdoor activities as a need to provide safe, off-road trails for residents and visitors to use.

"We believe that the way to develop the next generation of conservationists is to give our community members space to be outside, be creative, and collaborate with the groups in town that steward our outdoor spaces," bike park supporter and volunteer Eleanor Sachs told Patch prior to last year's town meeting.
