Marblehead Police Take on 'No Shave November' for Children at NSMC

Officers Put Away their Razors to Raise Funds for the Family Resource Center

Every November, as the Halloween candy piles dwindle and the days get shorter, the phenomenon returns: No Shave November. After a highly successful campaign in 2015, the Marblehead Police Department, one of the oldest police departments in the U.S., is again taking on the No Shave challenge – this year for the Merry Mixers organization and its mission of raising funds for MassGeneral for Children at North Shore Medical Center’s Family Resource Center.

“Marblehead Police Department officers are passionate about protecting the safety of our community members, and the Family Resource Center’s efforts for our local children and teens is closely aligned with many of the issues we face every day,” said Marblehead Police Chief Robert Picariello. “The enthusiasm and dedication our officers have shown for No Shave November has been impressive. Supporting Merry Mixers and such an important local cause will make the campaign all the more impactful this year.”

Merry Mixers is a Marblehead-based non-profit organization that raises awareness and provides funding for critical programs at MassGeneral Hospital for Children at North Shore Medical Center. Funds raised in 2016 and 2017 by Merry Mixers will support the Family Resource Center, which provides services for families dealing with psychological, emotional and physical health issues, ranging from opiate addiction to coping with terminal illness.

“As an organization that was founded in 1965 by Marblehead Moms to support the hospital that serves our children, we could not be more honored that our Police Department has chosen our mission in this fun and effective fundraising campaign,” said Kerri Burr, Merry Mixers co-chair. “The work the Family Resource Center offers our local families is integral to the healthy progression of our community. We are incredibly grateful that Marblehead PD has recognized its importance, and we can’t wait to see the results!”

Participating officers pay a fee to participate, and the Police Officers Union has offered to match the officers’ contributions.
