Marblehead Stolen Mail Included Real Estate Tax, Utility Payments
Police are advising residents who placed payments in the Widger Road mailbox to cancel those checks and monitor accounts.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead residents who placed check payments into the mailbox in front of the municipal office building on Widger Road are advised to cancel those checks and monitor their accounts after police said a bag of mail was stolen from that box sometime Wednesday or Thursday.
A bag containing the mail was discovered near the former railroad right-of-way off Pleasant Street with several pieces of mail found opened and checks inside missing, while bills were left behind.
"Checks stolen were for real estate taxes and various utilities," police said.

Marblehead police said they are working with the U.S. Postal Service police on investigating the theft.
"If you placed any mail in that box, it may be wise to cancel any checks or at least monitor your accounts closely," police said.

Anyone who lives or works in the area who believes they may have heard or seen suspicious activity between Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. is asked to contact Marlbehead police at 781-631-1212.
