Marblehead Receives Fire Safety Education Grant
The SAFE program helps prepare children and seniors for the event of a fire.

MARBLEHEAD, MA - The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Department of Fire Services has awarded the grant funds for Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) and Senior SAFE programs in Marblehead.
The Marblehead Fire Department has been awarded $4,837 for the S.A.F.E Program and $2,917 for the Senior Safe Program, a news release reported.
“Our community has had the misfortune of recently being affected by the destruction of fires. In an effort to prevent tragedies from happening in the future, it is of great importance that we continue to specifically educate our children and our seniors on the importance of fire safety,” Senator Thomas M. McGee said in the news release

The fire education program was created 20 years ago, and since then time, average annual child fire deaths have been reduced by 70 percent. The recently created Senior SAFE also educates the senior community on fire safety.
“S.A.F.E. is an example of the many successful and valuable programs that the legislature and the governor support on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth,” State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said in the news release. “We are thankful to the legislature for their support of these vital programs, and thankful for expanding S.A.F.E. to include older adult fire prevention education.”
