Some fourth-grade students at Marblehead’s Village School learned recently about solar energy and energy efficiency when a representative from Empower Marblehead visited the classroom.
Boston Solar’s Outreach Director John Livermore spent some time in Joy Roy’s fourth-grade class on June 19 answering questions about energy efficiency and discussing his home, the state’s first positive energy home renovation, meaning the home creates more energy than it uses.

“Mr. Livermore’s fabulous presentation was age-appropriate, informative, and inspirational,” Roy said in a press release. “He demonstrates, through detailed slides and hands-on resources, the methods he used to make his home a positive-energy home. Mr. Livermore engages the kids through wonderful visuals, humor, and engaging, thoughtful questions.”
Students in Roy’s class expressed their desire to talk with their parents about solar panels and were excited to see the way Livermore’s home works, according to the press release.
