Marblehead's Portion of Additional Chapter 90 Funds Tops $448,000

Marblehead will receive $448,252 from the state for local road repairs and improvements.
This Fiscal Year 2016 Chapter 90 allotment announcement comes just a week after it was announced Marblehead is eligible for $67,104 as part of the state’s Winter Recovery Assistance Program (WRAP), which was approved by the governor out of the FY15 budget. The latest dollars were approved prior to April 1 in order to take full advantage of the upcoming construction season, according to a press release from State Sen. Thomas McGee (D-Lynn). The dollars are part of $200 million in additional Chapter 90 funds the legislature approved for the state.
Chapter 90 funds are ”for local road reconstruction, resurfacing, equipment, design and engineering helps to ensure the long term viability of the Commonwealth’s overall transportation infrastructure,” the press release reads.

The program funds are 100 percent reimbursable and each municipality’s portion is based on a formula that takes into account road miles, population and employees.
“After the rough winter we all experienced, this extra money will be helpful in repairing our battered roads and bridges,” said Rep. Lori Ehrlich (D-Marblehead). “I am glad the legislature and the governor moved quickly to make this a priority.”

Marblehead’s FY2015 Chapter 90 allotment was $671,040.
