New Public Docks Arrive in Marblehead

Three new Commercial Street landing floats arrived at Riverhead Beach Tuesday.

An effort to replace Marblehead's 28-year-old Commercial Street docks took a big step forward Tuesday afternoon when three massive floats were delivered to Riverhead Beach.

Other necessary parts and equipment will be arriving in town today and tomorrow and Harbormaster Webb Russell said he expects the dock replacement project will be completed in about a week.

"These are town-owned public access docks and we always said we'd replace them when they started to fail and right now they're definitely starting to fail," Russell said during a project update last month.

The new docks will be paid for using mooring fees collected by the Harbors and Waters Board.
