Plum Island Destruction: Does It Make You Rethink Living Seaside?

The images of houses destroyed or made uninhabitable by the storm are a nightmare for shoreline homeowners — or people who some day want to be. Does it change how you feel about living seaside?

Just up the shore on Plum Island there are scenes of destruction that might give nightmares to anyone with seaside property.

During the storm, one home was washed off its foundations and is a total loss. Pictures and video of it sitting on the rocky beach at a nauseating 45 degree angle dominated newscasts on Friday. Since then, another home has been claimed by the sea and others are off-limits because of structural damage.

One Duke University expert told the Boston Herald this was "the end of Plum Island."

Of course, everyone who owns property by the sea — or wants to own property by the sea — knows this could happen. That's theory, though. To see it take place nearby, does that change your calculus about either keeping your seaside home or buying one?
