Gas company work is making the area nearly impassable.

Marblehead police are advising residents to avoid the area near 89 Front St. at all costs Monday, if possible.

National Grid gas construction crews are working on Front Street today in the area of the Trading Company boatyard at 89 Front Street.

Apparently this is scheduled work and residents in the area were notified three weeks ago by the gas company of the project, according to police.

Traffic flowing along Front Street is being detoured when it reaches the construction zone. All traffic is being detoured left onto Glover Square and then a right onto State Street.

Anyone living or having business on the other side of the construction will find themselves stuck. Parking and walking up into the area is the best (although not overly practical) way to go for the day, police stated.

There are two officers working with the National Grid crews. If you are trying to get somewhere down there, hopefully they can help you.

Best advice, according to police, if you don’t have to be moving around that area – avoid it at all cost.
