Police Continue to Receive Reports of Vehicle Break-Ins

Plus, a suspicious jewelry store customer and a man sleeping in his car.

Monday, June 15

At 7:59 a.m., a large limb was reported to be down on Beringer Way.

At 9:22 a.m., a man reported that a GPS unit and a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card was taken overnight from his unlocked vehicle on Locust Street.

At 9:52 a.m., a caller reported a man sleeping in his car in the parking lot at Cafe Italia. An officer woke the man who said he was an employee at the cafe and was waiting for it to open.

At 11:32 a.m., a woman found a fitness bracelet.

At 2:41 p.m., a woman found a large black tarp on her property and was unsure how it got there.

At 3:28 p.m., a jewelry store owner reported a woman had come in that day to inquire about having a ring fixed, but she didn’t have the ring with her. She left two phone numbers with the store owner, but neither number was a working number, the store owner told police. The owner just felt the interaction was suspicious.

At 8:53 p.m., a man reported his wallet was missing, but he wasn’t sure whether it had been taken or if he simply lost it.

Tuesday, June 16

At 9:52 a.m., a woman came into the station to report that she’d had an irrigation system installed and it wasn’t working properly. She said she had already paid for the work and couldn’t get the company to answer her calls. Police found that the system was working, just not to her liking and that the system was installed last year. She was advised to consult an attorney to find whether there was any further action that could be taken.

At 11:05 a.m., a man reported his GPS unit had been stolen and his glovebox rifled through two night ago. He also told police he’d seen a Toyoto Camry occupied by two Hispanic males sitting in front of his house two days ago. He said he heard one of the men say, “That must be the owner,” before the car drove away.

At 12:28 p.m., a complaint came in of a person without a handicap placard parking in a handicap spot at the JCC. The vehicle was tagged.

At 1:18 p.m., a woman reported a man fishing from a “bad spot” along Ocean Avenue. His moped was in the way, she said. Police asked the man to move the moped, but determined he was fishing from an OK place.

At 8:54 p.m., a caller reported finding a dirt bike that appeared to be about eight or nine years old.
