Scant Snow Expected, But Coastal Flooding Still a Concern

Coastal flooding and beach erosion are possible during high tide Thursday and Friday.

Marblehead shouldn't see much snow after all in the latest coastal storm passing through, but flooding still remains a concern.

As of about midnight on Thursday, the latest local forecast from the National Weather Service said little or no snow accumulation was anticipated for the area, although a mixture of rain and snow should last throughout the day.

Strong winds are still expected along with gusts up to 50 mph, which could bring down tree limbs and power lines, causing outages. Friday's forecast also includes strong winds and gusts up to 43 mph.

A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect from 5 a.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday with the potential for "dangerous" flooding conditions and "severe beach erosion" during high tide periods.

Storm surges may reach 1-3 feet in "vulnerable locations" for the Thursday morning high tide, says the weather service, while 2- to- 4-foot surges are possible for Friday morning's high tide. Offshore waves may climb to 20 feet or higher.
