Sign up For Library Workshop by Award Winning Quiltmaker

Margarita Blumkina will be offering a workshop on Saturday, April 20, from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. In the meantime check out her show, Rainbow of Quilts, at the library gallery.

 

The Abbot Library is pleased to present an exhibit of selected quilts by award-winning quiltmaker Margarita Blumkina.

The show highlights Blumkina’s extraordinary creativity in bringing together color and pattern, often making use of vintage fabrics which lend her quilts a quality of visual warmth, unusual in newly crafted quilts.

In 2012, Blumkina’s quilts were included as semi-finalists in two separate American Quilter’s Society Shows, one of the most prestigious of competitive nation-wide quilt shows.

In 2011, one of Blumkina’s quilts received a 1st prize Blue Ribbon at the Topsfield Fair; in 2012, she received a Blue, a White and a Purple Ribbon, at the Fair, for three of her quilts.

One of the quilts in the “Rainbow of Quilts” exhibit will be raffled off, as a fundraiser for the Friends of Abbot Library. (The Friends provide funding for most Library programs and for the discounted museum passes that many enjoy.) Raffle tickets will be $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. Tickets will be sold Sunday, April 21, beginning at 2:00 pm, when the winning ticket also will be drawn as part of the special event (an illustrated talk on Isabella Stewart Gardner’s personal book collection) taking place at the

Margarita Blumkina will be offering a workshop on Saturday, April 20, from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm, where participants will make a decorated placemat, using the quiltmaking technique of English paper-piecing to create a design in the pattern known as “Grandmother’s Flower Garden.”

A sample finished placemat is on view at the Library. The instructor will provide all materials; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own thimbles. Basic hand-sewing skills are required. The workshop will be limited to 10 participants.
