Spectacular winter season of concerts at the me&thee

The upcoming series of concerts offer an eclectic mix of music for everyone!

The winter season of the me&thee coffeehouse in Marblehead offers a wide variety of acts that will surely capture the musical imagination of live concert fans of all ages. The much-esteemed listening room has offered the best in national and international acoustic music since 1970 and begins its winter season on February 1. The me&thee is located at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead at 28 Mugford Street.

This first show of the season season is on February 1 and features Jill Sobule. This endearingly quirky singer-songwriter hast just released her first album in nearly a decade. On Nostalgia Kills, the woman hailed by The New York Times for making “grown-up music for an adolescent age” turns her warm wit and poet’s eye on herself more than ever before, revisiting moments from throughout her life that made her into the person she is today. Come hear the original “I Kissed a Girl” as a reminder of Sobule’s brilliance years before Katy Perry sang a song with the same title. Andrew Delaney, from Arlington, TX, is the perfect opener for Jill. He is equally articulate and talented and brings some interesting songs and tales our way. Next up on February 8 is Cold Chocolate. This band is a genre-bending Americana band that fuses folk, funk, and bluegrass to create a unique sound all their own. Cold Chocolate features Ethan Robbins on guitar, Ariel Bernstein on percussion, and backed by some of the roots music scene’s best players from Boston. Dynamic fiddler / songwriter, Emerald Rae opens the show.

James Keelaghan is called Canada’s finest singer-songwriter by music critics and fans alike. His long history of touring his native country and beyond has proven that he is a man for all seasons; he’ll be sharing his passionate story-songs at the me&thee on February 15. Joining him as the opener is Sophie Buskin. A special tribute show to female musicians of all kinds is slated for February 22. Four of New England’s premiere singer-songwriters will be playing songs by women who have influenced their own work. Danielle Miraglia, Lisa Bastoni, Jenee Halstead, and Samantha Farrell will be combining forces for a show called Breaking Barriers: A Tribute to Women Who Paved the Way.

March 1 marks the return of two beloved musicians who have played the me&thee many times over the years, Don White and Christine Lavin. They have toured all over North America in a show called “The Funny Side of the Street” for eight and half years. They are both pursuing solo endeavors these days and this is only one of two co-bills planned for 2019. Come celebrate Don White’s birthday with him at this show too.

Boston-area singer-songwriter, Antje Duvekot returns on March 8. Antje has played at the me&thee since 2006, way before she rose to become a nationally touring artist. Antje Duvekot has solidified her reputation as one of Boston's top singer-songwriters with stellar albums like Big Dream Boulevard, The Near Demise of the Highwire Dancer and her latest Toward the Thunder. Legendary David Mallett comes to the me&thee on March 15. Mallett is one of America’s true original troubadours. His career has spanned four decades and his most memorable song, “The Garden Song,” is a staple that is sung around campfires and classrooms alike. Local favorite, Marina Evans, opens the show.
