Stolen Cars Driven Across Marblehead Football Field, 1 Found Ditched In Ocean: Police

Marblehead police said the car believed to be involved in the vandalism at Marblehead High was found submerged at Grace Oliver's Beach.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — One of two vehicles believed to be part of vandalism at the Marblehead High School football field early on Wednesday morning was later found ditched in the waters off Grace Oliver's Beach.

Marblehead police are seeking the public's help in investigating what they said were two stolen cars that were reported driven across the field at about 5:30 a.m. and then fled the scene.

About six hours later, police said a car matching the description of one involved in the vandalism was found unoccupied in the ocean.

An investigation determined that the vehicle found was reported stolen.

Marblehead police said they are looking to identify the person, or people, responsible. The investigation is being treated as a criminal matter, and police said they intend to press charges.

Police said that the access gate of the field was damaged but that the field itself did not appear to have sustained significant damage.

The Salem Police Dive Team assisted in the search and recovery of the submerged car.
