Sustainable Marblehead Hosts Social Change, Human Creativity Program

The Feb. 7 program will feature Peabody Essex Museum's Art & Nature Center Director Jane Winchell.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Sustainable Marblehead will host a program on creating a more sustainable world through human creativity and social change featuring guest speaker Jane Winchell of the Peabody Essex Museum on Feb. 7.

The event will be held at the Church of St. Andrew on Lafayette Street in Marblehead from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost to attend is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased here or at the door.

Tickets to the program include delicious light bites generously donated by Shubie’s Marketplace in Marblehead as well as a chance to win a copy of the Our Time on Earth exhibition catalogue valued at $45.

Winchell, the Art & Nature Director at the Peabody Essex Museum, will preview the PEM's upcoming "Our Time on Earth" exhibition. The exhibition opens at the museum with its U.S. debut on Feb. 17.

Winchell has been the director of PEM's Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center since its founding in 2003. She started at PEM in 1992 as curator of the Natural History collection and led the development of the museum's original Art & Nature Center, as well as the newly revamped and expanded Center that opened in 2013.

Frank Lowenstein, Senior Director at Rare, will discuss the link between human behavior and policy change, and how Rare's Climate Culture Boston initiative launched in 2022 is helping the city reach carbon neutrality by influencing how people eat, travel and use energy. Winchell and Lowenstein will also describe their work together on the visitor engagement zone that will be part of the PEM exhibition.

"We are delighted to delve into the intersections of human creativity, behavior, and their transformative role in addressing the climate crisis at our upcoming event," Sustainable Executive Director Elaine Leahy said. "Anticipating the insightful contributions of Jane and Frank, we are united in magnifying the impact of creativity and behavior, working hand in hand towards a more sustainable and vibrant future."
