Marblehead Police Charge Teen in Connection With Violent Friday Crash

A teen is now facing drunken-driving charges stemming from a violent motor vehicle accident that sent three to the hospital early Friday morning.

A Mattapan teen is now facing drunk driving charges stemming from a violent car accident in Marblehead Friday that sent three to the hospital, police said.

Michael W. Johnson, 19, of 371 River St., Mattapan, has been charged with three counts of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

At 2:23 a.m. Friday, local police and fire units responded to a car crash by 87 Humphrey St. that required that three people be extricated, treated at the scene and transported to Salem Hospital.

The occupants at the time of the were: Cameron Sylvester of Marblehead; Maxwell Hill of Lynn; and Johnson, of Mattapan.

About an hour after the crash, police received a call from the vehicle's owner, saying that someone had taken his vehicle without permission.

A K9 unit was called to the scene to look for the driver, who police believed may have fled the area after the crash. Police are now charging Johnson with driving the vehicle.

More individuals may be charged at the completion of the investigation, according to a statement issued by Marblehead Police Chief Robert Picariello Wednesday afternoon.
