Town Nears Agreement With Two Stonybrook Road Homeowners

Health Board still negotiating with Dinsmores to purchase their home contaminated by nearby landfill.

The town will likely own some more property soon on Stonybrook Road. It has reached a tentative agreement with two of four homeowners who live near the town's landfill to buy or compensate them for the contamination the landfill has caused to their properties, Health Director Wayne Attridge said Tuesday night.

The town also continues to negotiate with Jeff and Kate Dinsmore, who reached an agreement last year for the town to purchase their property on Stonybrook Road for $899,955, but that purchase

So negotiations with the Dinsmores to purchase their 18,430-square-foot lot continue.

A fourth homeowner on Stoneybrook Road has not been willing to negotiate with the town. And the Health Department may have to ask the town to consider using imminent domain proceedings to acquire the contaminated property, Attridge said.

“The town has to be able to show it has done everything possible to acquire that property if there is a lawsuit,” Attridge said.

The purchase of the homes will be considered at the Town Meeting in May. The exact amount that will be asked to purchase the homes has not been set.
