What You Need to Know About Tuesday's Special Election

Voters will head back to the polls in Marblehead on June 16.

Marblehead voters will decide whether to accept $8 million in overrides during a special election on June 16, 2015.

The overrides are required to fund three articles passed at the town’s annual town election in May. Those articles had to do with the town’s landfill and new transfer station building.

Here are the details for Tuesday’s election:

Where:

  • Precinct 1: The Town House (1 Market Square)
  • Precinct 2 & 3: The Masonic Temple (62 Pleasant St.)
  • Precinct 4 - 6: The Marblehead Community Center (10 Humphrey St.)

When:

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

What:

The question on which voters will vote “yes” or “no” is as follows:

Question 1: Shall the Town of Marblehead be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to fund Articles 32, 33 and 34 of the 2015 Annual Town Meeting to pay for the bonds issued for the purposes of repairing and/or replacing the existing 60-inch concrete drainage culvert that crosses the landfill property, including investigations, engineering, construction, and all other activities and costs necessary to carry out the work; work necessary to remove, relocate, or dispose of solid waste in areas beyond the limit of work in the current landfill closure project including investigations, engineering, legal fees, construction, easements and/or property acquisition, and all other activities and costs necessary to carry out the work; and permitting, public bidding, site work, utility work, deconstruction of the old Transfer Station and construction of the new Transfer Station, and all other activities and costs necessary to carry out the work all in connection with the clean-up related to the historic operations of the former landfill?
