5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 10

A cleanup plan revealed, an ancient civilization unearthed and a chance for kids to learn about the water cycle.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The Environmental Protection Agency will lay out its plans to cleanup petroleum contamination at the former Jenney gas station on Main St. at a meeting that starts at 6 p.m. at the Hildreth School. The city has received a Brownfields grant to clean up and reuse the property, possibly as a park.

2. Some students and their teacher were doing some digging of their own, with teacher Amy Schrepfer-Tarter leading a group that visited the Gabil Project, the excavation of a Latin city-state dating from the first millennium BC. 

3. Looking for a job? Staffing firm Randstad is hiring a product manager for its Marlborough office. 


4.OARS is offerong a series of free workshops for children 6 to 10 years old forcused on the natural world and the water cycle. The next workshop takes place at on Wednesday morning, focusing on local watersheds and the water cycle. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. on the beach. Register by calling (978) 369-3956

5. Who knows what the rest of the summer will bring, but there's a chance the rest of the week could represent one of the best stretches of the weather possible. The forecast calls for low humidity, highs in the 80s and no more than a 10 percent chance of rain for the rest of the week.
