5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 12
The School Committee looks to resolve lingering issues and look ahead, and election season is heating up along with the summer weather.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Members of the School Committee have a busy day ahead. At 4:15 p.m. the board’s Finance Committee meets to discuss a proposal to transfer control of the Bigelow School to the city. An executive session of the full board follows to discuss several items, including legal actions against the district. The committee then meets in open session at 6:30 p.m. and is expected to discuss plans for moving forward with the search for a new superintendent.
2. It may be summer but election season is heating up as well. A state senate candidate announced a Marlborough office yesterday and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren will live chat on Patch on Friday. 3. In addition to electing a president, a senator and several state-level offices, Massachusetts voters will face three ballot questions as well. Secretary of State William Galvin said Wednesday that questions about medical marijuana, "aid in dying," and the right to repair bill that will require car makers to offer information on how to fix vehicles to all repair shops.

5. Registration is open for the Highland City Striders' Running with the Wolves 10K race, which takes place on July 18. The race follows a course along the Assabet River Rail Trail into Hudson and finishes back in Marlborough at Kelleher Field. A post-race party is included in the sign-up fee.
