MARLBOROUGH, MA — A high school in Marlborough is set to receive funding for "long-needed" auditorium updates, according to a local leader.

Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School will get $350,000 for renovations to its auditorium. The funding comes through the Massachusetts Senate’s Fair Share supplemental budget, Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Middlesex and Worcester) announced on Monday.

In a social media post, Sen. Eldridge said he secured the earmark as part of the Senate’s Mass Fair Share “Millionaires Tax" budget package passed last month.

The funding will support upgrades to the school’s more than 50-year-old auditorium, a space used for student learning, career and technical education programming and community events.

“For over 50 years, this space has been a hub for student learning, career and technical education programming, and community events,” Sen. Eldridge wrote in the post.

The renovations are expected to modernize aging infrastructure, improve accessibility and help bring the space into code compliance, Sen. Eldridge said, also noting that the auditorium hosts the annual Senior Conference and other community gatherings.

The supplemental budget still requires coordination with the House and Gov. Maura Healey before funds are finalized.

Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School serves students from several communities, including Marlborough, Hudson, Maynard and Westborough.

This news comes less than a week after the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that Assabet Valley would receive $3.75 million for two new Career Technical Education programs in public safety and veterinary science.

The funding is part of more than $70 million in CTE program grants to 28 schools across the state.
