MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough Lions Club is supporting a United Way program that helps local students start the school year with needed supplies.
The club, which supports several youth-focused programs, recently donated $1,000 to United Way of Tri-County's Tools for School program, which provides children in grades K-12 with new backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies. Barbara LaGrenade accepted the donation on behalf of United Way.
The Tools for School program distributed supplies to more than 900 local students last year, including backpacks filled with items such as crayons, notebooks, calculators and other classroom essentials.
Program organizers are seeking additional support this year as rising costs continue to put pressure on families. Donations of school supplies, backpacks, financial contributions and volunteer time are being accepted.
The Marlborough Lions Club also supports the Lions Youth Speech Contest, the Lions Peace Poster Contest and annual scholarships for graduating seniors.
Anyone interested in helping can contact LaGrenade at (508) 370-4902 or by email at barbara.lagrenade@uwotc.org, or learn more through United Way of Tri-County's Tools for School program.
